Quel_bastone_maledetto!! He is the most shady char of the show. Until the end of Slayers Next his true identity is not known. At first sight he seems like a priest who never parts from his strange stick (when I saw Slayers for the first time I hoped that that ugly thing broke but now I' know it's very useful...), and always runs away at the good moment: when it's time to fight!!!!! His eyes are always half-open, but when he opens them they are really scary (and beautiful!!).

Really Xelloss is a mazoku (demon), but not a common one: he is the general-priest of Xellass Metallium (one of the 5 Dark Lords created by Shabranigdo). So he's the strongest of the Dark Lords subordinates and he has demonstrated it in the Kouma- Sensou (the war between dragons and demons), where he has made a massacre of golden dragons. Like all demons he doesn't use magical spells, but directly takes the power from himself. Moreover (like all demons), he has two shapes: the human one (very well-known^_^) and the real one of a black-purple cone (you can glimpse it in the Sl Try episode in which, to hit Valgarv, he duplicates himself in thousand of small cones).
Also after its true identity is discovered, you can never know on which side he is, he always tries to brail up his "friends" (his nickname isn't Trickster priest for nothing...)and, unless he has some advantage from a combat, he avoid fighting by disappearing in the Astral plane leaving the others of Slayers in troubles.

For the record, only 3 times he has helped the others , once in order to save Rina that had been attacked from the Kanzel's henchmen (but only bcoz Rina was useful to Phibrizio's plans) and twice in order to help Filia: Oopss.. first in the second episode of Alto and Baritoo (When F. is being hit X appears magically in front of her), then in the episode of the combat against Valgarv (Xelloss is winning, he could easily eliminate the opponent, but he decides- what a chance;-)- , to teleport Filia, JUST WHILE SHE'S BEING SWEPT AWAY by a landslide, only to throw her to Valgarv that in this way has the time to recover and to defeat the mazoku.)
